Director Danny Boyle has a lot to live up to with the ‘T2: Trainspotting’ sequel seeing as the original novel and film were both such a hit. They were so successful because both texts captured what life was like in the 90s. Arguably the film illustrates the 1990s so well thanks to its iconic soundtrack by using of-the-moment artists like Underworld, Leftfield and Blur.
Even though ‘T2: Trainspotting’ isn’t out in UK cinemas until the 27th January, the soundtrack has been leaked online via a CD on Amazon. It has since been removed from the page but a tweet from Irvine Welsh, the author behind the novel, confirms the track lists’ authenticity.
Much like the original, there are a lot of cult classics on the list. Unsurprisingly Underworld returns with ‘Slow Slippy’ which suggests there’s a twist on the original ‘Born Slippy (Nuxx)’. The Prodigy revamps Iggy Pop’s ‘Lust for Life’ with a remix and Blondie, Queen and Frankie Goes To Hollywood also make an appearance.
‘Trainspotting’ was praised for using of-the-moment artists so we hope T2 would do the same. Young Fathers, an alternative “misfit” hip-hop group from Edinburgh represent todays Scottish music pretty well. They have been featured twice on the soundtrack with ‘Rain Or Shine’ from their 2015 album ‘White Men Are Black Too’ and ‘GET UP’ from their 2014 Mercury award winning album 'DEAD'.

Electronic DJ High Contrast and Irish hip-hop duo The Rubberbandits capture what the UK's nightlife sounds like today. Award winning rock band from North London, Wolf Alice, have already been played in most of the trailers with their track ‘Silk’ from their 2015 album ‘My Love Is Cool’.

After having a listen to the available songs, the T2 soundtrack sounds nostalgic with old favourites from pre-2000 but different at the same time by using edgy and quirky artists from today. The T2 soundtrack is also exciting as we can’t wait to find out what ‘Slow Slippy’ is all about. Make sure you choose T2 at the end of this month.
