A study by OpenSignal and Which found that mobile phone users are only able to use 4G's data service 53% of the time.

University student, Lisa, says she is surprised if she gets a 4G internet signal here in Hastings: "If i'm moving around London then it's quite good however when I'm in remote areas like Hastings it's quite bad."

There are not many problems with 4G reception in Priory Meadow or near the University Brighton campus and Sussex Coast College. However, in quieter places such as St Leonards or the Old Town there are some issues.

Speaking to a Hastings local he complains that: "There are black spots everywhere even in my own home. The same in town it's not too bad, you go to the Old Town though you'll lose signal."

EE propose to expand 4G to each 99% of the population in a £1.5 billion three-year investment plan. With the growing dependence on the internet for work and leisure, customers feel that it is essential to be able to access 4G.

Although network operators have faced some planning issues, hopefully in the years to come you'll be able to tweet a selfie at the Hastings castle or watch a YouTube video over a coffee in the Old Town.
